So many
things
compete for
our
attention
these days
that
sometimes
it’s hard to
prioritize
things that
are good for
us. While it
may seem
overwhelming
or
unimportant
to get
prepared, we
know from
experience
that taking
steps to
prepare
ahead of
time can
help you
respond
better and
stay safer
in an
emergency.
This
September,
the American
Red Cross
joins the

you get

“Saved by the Wildcats”
The
Northcentral PA Chapter
American Red Cross
WILL
BE
holding the 12th
annual Susquehanna 500 Mini
Indy race on September 20th
and21st in
Brandon Park. The future of
this major fundraiser was in
severejeopardy of coming to
a screeching halt! BUT,
thanks to the “Williamsport
Wildcats” semi-pro
football team the race
will go on! A Wildcat’s
team member heard about the
dilemma the Red Cross was in
and immediately called his
team mates to volunteer
their time and muscles to
setup and tear down the
track. This semi
professional football team (www.williamsportwildcats.org)
from Williamsport is to be
commended for helping the
Red Cross with the extensive
manpower needs to make this
event occur.
A
public meeting was held last
week to discuss the logistic
problems and make a final
decision as to whether or
not the race could be held.
The response was
overwhelming! The room was
filled with team members,
race officials and
volunteers who felt that the
event is very important to
the Red Cross and their
service to our community.
This is the largest
fundraiser of the year for
the local Red Cross Chapter,
but dwindling support and
hard times is making the
event a real challenge. The
participating race teams,
(after paying to enter the
event), have volunteered to
help with the labor
intensive preparation,
clean-up and recruit
sponsors to help fund the
event.
This race is a great family
event. Vendors are on hand
to provide food and other
items of interest. It’s a
time to relax and support
not only the Red Cross but
your local businesses as you
cheer them to victory! And
best of all – there’s no
admission fee! Anyone
interested in being a
financial sponsor or would
like to offer their
resources please contact the
Red Cross by visiting our
web site at
www.ncparedcross.org.
